Description

The Natural Environment White Paper announced the creation of a Natural Capital Committee. Reporting to the Economic Affairs Committee, which is chaired by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the NCC will help ensure that the economy can continue to prosper and grow, by protecting nature and using its services sustainably.

The Committee will provide advice on where natural assets are being used unsustainably and how the Government should prioritise action to protect and improve natural capital. It will also advise on research priorities to improve future decisions on protecting and enhancing natural capital.

We are looking for a Chair and five committee members to drive forward this vital work. To join the Committee, you will need to be an acknowledged expert with a global reputation in your field – be it economics, economic policy, public policy, natural science, biodiversity or sustainable development.

In addition, the Chair will need a track record of senior leadership in academia, public policy or business, as well as with experience of working across Whitehall and beyond. An intellectual leader, the right Chair will inspire and engage at the highest levels.

To make your knowledge count, please visit www.defra.gov.uk/naturalcapitalcommittee for more information. To apply, please email naturalcapitalcommittee@defra.gsi.gov.uk or call 020 7238 1266.

The closing date for Members will be, noon, 13 January 2012. The Committee will run until 2015, with 5-6 meetings a year. Roles are unpaid, with an honorarium available for the Chair.
