Description

 

Primary Purpose:   Undertake research, analysis, write reports, help with events and outreach.

 Likely Tasks:

Programmatic Work

• Work with Regional Director on research and analytical projects. Undertake literature reviews, analyze data, etc.. with respect to various anticipated publications, papers, or conferences.
• Visit nearby park sites (i.e., Cape Cod, Governors Island) to understand issues, project NPCA presence, and brief NERO staff with respect to prevailing matters.
• Help prepare NERO outreach materials. Work on regional newsletter, pamphlets, and other materials.

Communications Outreach and Coordination
- Update website content; solicit content ideas, write and edit information, liaise with supervisor and web manager to facilitate updates.
• Help prepare NERO’s quarterly regional Newsletter.  Write and edit articles, and coordinate with printers and mailers for its delivery.
• Assist Program Manager in outreach to federal, state and local government staff, advocacy organizations, media and other contacts.

General Office Assistance
• Liaise between NERO staff and vendors on supplies, processes, and schedules for projects including but not limited to:  events, newsletters, brochures, and invitation design, printing, and mailing.
• General administrative duties as assigned and needed.

Minimum Work Schedule:    18 hours per week: Flexible working hours between 9am - 6pm. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

Minimum Scope of Position:  Intern interacts with entire NERO staff, and is fully integrated in the team. Will report directly to the Office Coordinator and secondarily to the Regional Director. Will also work closely with the Program Manager and Program Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications, Competencies, Skills, Education, and Traits:

Excellent verbal and organizational skills; employee must be very articulate, have strong computer skills, a professional demeanor, and be highly organized. Previous office experience preferred. Reasonably advanced computer skills required (fully competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and other basic packages).  Intern must be working toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree. Preference will be given to further advanced candidates.   

Physical Effort and Dexterity:  While performing the duties of this job, the intern is typically required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The intern may lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
