National Biodiversity and Business Network Manager Vacancy
Purpose of the Position: The Endangered Wildlife Trust, one of the largest biodiversity conservation NGOs in southern Africa, is seeking to employ a dynamic, passionate and confident person to lead the strategic planning and manage the day-to-day activities of the National Biodiversity Business Network (NBBN).

Project description:
The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) has led, in collaboration with a number of partners, the establishment and implementation of the NBBN, in alignment with the model of the Global Partnership for Business and Biodiversity. The NBBN was launched on 15 May 2013.
The NBBN aims to support and assist in the integration and mainstreaming of biodiversity into business agendas and operations within various business sectors, industries and related stakeholders. It is an open and inclusive network designed to help raise awareness of biodiversity and sustainability issues within the business community and to encourage dialogue amongst stakeholders in this area, as well as to provide pragmatic and practical support to facilitate the mainstreaming process.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic development through the development, implementation and regular review of the strategy;
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Annual Action Plan; ensuring sustainable growth;
  • Report back to partners and stakeholders on the progress and work of the NBBN;
  • Provide strategic guidance to the EWT and represent the EWT on matters relating to Biodiversity and Business;
  • Develop effective strategic partnerships and/or relationships with international and national organisations, companies and government around business and biodiversity;
  • Increase awareness and understanding of the biodiversity and business nexus amongst target audiences;
  • Develop, with partners and relevant stakeholders, pilot projects that demonstrate the importance and value of integrating biodiversity into business planning and strategy;
  • Develop general awareness raising materials for various forums, and supervise the development and implementation of training for tertiary students/interns, industry and government agencies;
  • Develop and organise events and training sessions, including an annual conference; manage the NBBN steering committee;
  • Develop and manage the NBBN budget; with the aim of achieving financial sustainability by undertaking proactive fundraising and proposal development for NBBN activities, events and projects; and
  • Write articles for popular and academic publications and contribute to EWT publications as and when appropriate;
  • Ensure excellent media exposure of the NBBN, nationally and internationally;

Qualifications and requirements

    • The minimum requirements for this position include
    • A degree in a relevant field such as natural sciences, business management, environmental management, economics or law;
    • Proven working experience in the private sector with at least 5 years’ experience working with business and environmental management or sustainability;
    • A strong network in the business sector of relevant stakeholders;
    • A solid reputation and track record among business and government colleagues;
    • Demonstrated experience managing projects of relevance to business and biodiversity;
    • High level of knowledge about policy and political issues related to biodiversity and business;
    • Demonstrated fundraising, budgeting and programme planning abilities;
    • Experience with result based portfolio and project cycle management, monitoring and evaluation methodologies and principles;
    • Strategic and innovative thinker and strong interpersonal , leadership and management skills and experience;
    • Excellent communication skills and excellence in written and spoken English is essential;
    • Must be able to work independently;
    • Demonstrated experience in facilitating the establishment of networks and multi-stakeholder participatory processes, would be a benefit;
    • Training and facilitation experience; and
    • Computer literacy in relation to Office applications (word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint) as well as the use of internet and online communication tools
