This is a part-time (20-30 hours per week), short-term (16 weeks) position to assist the Moody Forest Natural Area (MFNA) manager with daily operations and data collection for Moody Forest Natural Area in Baxley, GA.  MFNA is jointly owned and funded by The Nature Conservancy and Georgia Department of Natural Resources.  MFNA contains natural communities with examples of old growth longleaf pine as well as floodplain and natural slope forest.  One of the primary objectives of MFNA is to protect, manage and restore rare species and natural communities located within the Altamaha watershed.  This position will require weekly responsibilities to work alone, conducting land management activities as well as collecting data in the field and then recording the data in the office for future reference.

• Conduct routine preserve management work on Moody Forest Natural Area, including brush cutting, boundary posting, herbicide application and yard maintenance
• Use of GPS equipment and software to update maps and Geographic Information System
• Conduct field monitoring of rare animals and plants as needed
• Document field data and summarize work accomplished
• Assist with routine office maintenance
• Assist with prescribed fire-related activities including fire break preparation, post-fire monitoring and burning
• Qualified or able to meet qualifications for Fire Fighter Type 2 certification
