 Field of work
 Cape Verde Islands
 Project description
 The MPI for Biogeochemistry is currently establishing a station on Cape Verde Islands (Sao Vicente) for continuous high-precision measurements of the atmospheric concentrations of long-lived greenhouse gases and oxygen. These measurements can be used to infer changes in air-sea gas exchange in the ocean upwelling areas along the north-African coast. The station at Cape Verde also contributes to the international global network of measurement stations, which is being developed to help determine and monitor the large-scale regional distribution of natural and anthropogenic sources and sinks of greenhouse gases.
 Job description
 - The successful candidate is expected to assist the project scientist in the instruments’ maintenance, day-to-day system operation, and routine data analyses. His main responsibilities will include:
- Daily surveillance of the instruments’ operation via remote access;
- Communication with the station manager in Cape Verde;
- Logistics management (for example, shipping of flask samples/cylinders);
- Routine data analysis, data processing and quality control (in coordination with the project scientist);
- Assistance in troubleshooting and instrument maintenance together with the instrument scientist on-site (involving extended trips to Cape Verde).
 Requirements
 - Diploma or Batchelor/Master degree in physics, electronics, engineering or similar technical field;
- Experience in operating measurement instruments; other technical background;
- Experience in electronics;
- Programming skills in high-level language (e.g. IDL, Matlab and/or Labview) are desirable but not obligatory (however, a successful candidate should be expected and willing to acquire some programming skills during his work);
- Good command of written and spoken English language; knowledge of Portuguese desirable but not indispensable.
 Payment
 Salary and social benefits will be in accordance with the regulations of the German TVöD (salary agreement for public service employees)
