The Mohican Outdoor Center Manager is responsible for the guest services, business management, partner relations and facility maintenance at this high quality AMC Outdoor Center in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.  Guest facilities include a central Lodge, boathouse on Catfish Pond, three group lodges, four family cabins, and a campground.  The manager is the host for the site and supports the delivery of staff and volunteer led programs assuring a warm, friendly atmosphere for all guests and visitors. The MOC Manager is responsible for the hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of assigned staff.  The MOC Manager is also AMC’s lead partner representative with the local National Park Service who administers the DWGNRA including AMC’s permit to operate at MOC.  This is a full time year round exempt position with excellent benefits, reporting to the Vice President for Outdoor Program Centers.  Housing provided on site.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a welcoming atmosphere and friendly, professional guest services at all times. 
  • Maintain good relations with DWGNRA staff, local businesses, neighbors, and visitors.
  • Provide for high quality overnight, foodservice and program delivery to guests of MOC.
  • Serve as the primary contact for program leaders and volunteer hosts, to ensure that they have a successful and enjoyable visit. 
  • Work in concert with the MOC Committee to provide guest activities and programs, and to coordinate with local Chapter and Trails efforts.  
  • Provide support for the expanding needs of the AMC Youth Opportunities Program (YOP). 
  • Hire, train, manage, and evaluate assigned employees in accordance with AMC standards.  Provide supervision and direction to ensure high levels of service and productivity. 
  • Oversee financial management at MOC using established procedures and in accordance with the approved operating budget.
  • Develop annual work-plans based on the facility long range plan, and secure approval from the NPS for programs and projects as required.  Ensure that AMC meets all operating requirements defined in our National Park Service Cooperative Agreement.
  • Support the central reservations system requirements, and provide for accounting and reporting functions.
  • Ensure that facilities and grounds are neat and clean at all times and that routine maintenance is performed as needed.  Assure that facility repair and improvements are authorized by the NPS and attended to locally and/or assigned and scheduled for AMC Construction Crew fulfillment.
  • Coordinate retail sales activities with the Merchandising Manager, including recommending products and assuring positive presentation and staff availability.
  • Provide information to day visitors and overnight guests at Mohican Outdoor Center, with fluency in DWGNRA, AMC, local natural history, safety, and outdoor recreation.
  • Manage MOC in support of AMC's "Green Promise" including recycling, energy conservation and other environmentally sound practices in daily operations.
  • Assist with the development of long range plans, capital and operating budgets.     

Employment Qualifications

  • Strong leadership coupled with the ability to be a team player.
  • A demonstrated ability to work independently and as a self-starter under remote general supervision. 
  • Demonstrated management ability including budget control, personnel supervision, and facility/food service experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills.  Hospitality experience desirable.
  • Computer competency (MS Office) is required.
  • Wilderness medical certification is desirable.
  • Familiarity with the Delaware Water Gap NRA is desirable.
  • Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  • Must be capable of traveling safely in the backcountry in all seasons.
  • Valid US driver’s license required. Ability to pass a Department of Transportation medical exam and satisfactory review of your driving record.
  • AMC has zero tolerance for the abuse of children. Any employee with access to children will have a criminal record check performed and have references checked regarding their past work with children.
