Summary
The module research and development team is responsible for conceiving, developing, and transferring new advanced module designs and platforms and into manufacturing. The group had developed the world record efficiency commercial available module, E20 series. This group is based in San Jose, California and consists of highly skilled scientists and engineers. 

We are looking for a motivated group lead for module design to join our module development team that works on the next generation designs and module to system integration. This person will be responsible for leading a group of Module RD design engineers and champion module to system integration solutions for maximum customer benefit. This activity involves collaborating with other departments and teams to understand the project goals; designing experiments or paper studies where appropriate, coordinating or executing the designed experiments; characterization the results; organizing and understanding the data; clear presentation and representation of the data highlighting gaps, risks and trade-offs, and finally determine the next step in development. An organized person with good inter-personal communication, self-directed and ability to multi-task a variety of projects in a high pace environment who would be willing to travel 15% of their time would be most suited to this position. This position is based in Richmond but frequent travel to San Jose office is required. Our organization values collaboration and teamwork highly as this promotes productivity and creativity. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

• Concept design, modeling, prototyping and testing of new module to system electrical and mechanical integration
• Evaluation of new components and designs such as Junction Boxes, cables, connectors, diodes and microinverters
• Product design and problem solving for module products, including: 
o Evaluation of new materials and design concepts for new, revision of existing solar module products 
o Delivery of items required to as part of design process qualification
o Technical support of manufacturing for developed and changed products 
• Take part in cross-functional teams for product development, corrective/preventive action, and process or infrastructure improvements 
• Work independently and with other engineers to establish functional requirements, system cost and performance targets. 
• Develop plans, schedules, cost models and budgets for independent and small group projects 
• Manage the design and development of portions of new products. 
• Support the transition of the product from design to manufacturing. 
• Understanding the interactions of the new design with both upstream and downstream processes and materials
• Designing of experiments, coordinating execution of experiments in the laboratory
• Characterization of experimental results, analysis, understanding and presenting data
• Communicating and negotiating with internal and external project customers
• Excellent people skills, able to work with global teams in a diverse work environment 


Qualifications and Experience
• MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical or related technical field
• 7+ years experience in engineering or product design
• 3D CAD design experience, SolidWorks preferred 
• Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical testing of PV modules and components as it relates to product performance and reliability for 25+ years
• Understanding/modeling of mechanical stresses in PV modules 
• 3+ years experience managing people
• Successful track record of rapid innovation and introduction of new concepts in production
• Understanding of modern product and process development tools such as SPC and DOE 
• Creative problem solver, able to work effectively with diverse groups
• Excellent written and verbal skills 
• Self motivated, with ability to work both independently and with multiple teams
• Self starter, comfortable with owning and driving development projects
