Description

Description of the job

Salary £31,030 - £34,623

The role

The Modelling and Hydrology Team Leader manages a technical team of modelling, hydrology and survey specialists that advise customers in the Region on existing and future flood risk. The service provided by the team includes the commissioning of new models and mapping, updates to flood risk assessment products such as NaFRA and the Flood Map.

In this role you’ll:

• manage a dispersed team of technical experts for survey, modelling, mapping and high flow hydrology and complex GIS for the benefit of FCRM services;

• recruit, develop and motivate a sustainable team and provide clarity around priorities and how their work contributes to Anglian FCRM outcomes;

• contribute to new ways of working and establish relationships with key customers, including Partnerships & Strategic Overview, Flood Forecasting, NCPMS and Asset Performance teams;

• establish a modelling programme across the region that meets customer’s needs and that delivers to realistic timeframes;

• engage with customers to understand their needs and provide evidence based options to assist their decision making;

• collaborate with other regions and with the national teams to contribute solutions to common issues and challenges and to share best practice.

The team

The Modelling and Hydrology team will ensure the FCRM Modelling Service meets the needs of customers now and in the future across all of FCRM. It analyses how well we understand flood risk across the region and provides evidence to inform customer’s decisions to take action to reduce flood risk.

The team reviews Area needs, identifies delivery options and manages the delivery of any outsourced projects through our frameworks with an ‘intelligent client’ understanding of modelling and survey. The team will also build, maintain and run models, for example, undertake the in-house NaFRA analysis work and support development of modelling for operational flood forecasting. The models would be commissioned and built for a variety of organisational purposes including incident and asset management, reusing core modelling assets where appropriate to meet FCRM needs. The products delivered by this team are used to make investment decisions, inform planning decisions and to provide evidence for customer enquiries.

Experience/skills required

We are looking for a motivated individual with a keen interest in flood risk and the experience or qualities to develop an excellent modelling and hydrology capability for the Region. This role will appeal to you if you have some or all of the following experience:

• Identifying, communicating and helping to fill knowledge gaps in a team.

• Plan and deliver work programmes via others, including monitoring performance and effectiveness to ensure continual improvement and embedding of best practice.

• Leading and developing a dispersed team.

• Delivering work within a programme and project management framework to time, cost and quality.

• Ability to translate and advise on a range of complex technical issues to help persuade colleagues and managers or external partners to take action.

• Influencing, leading and implementing new ways of working with customers to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
