Summary Job Description

We are currently recruiting a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to lead an exciting new partnership project between Blue Ventures Conservation and the “Our Sea Our Life” (OSOL) programme, led by multiple partners includingZSLBioclimate and Mozambican NGO AMA. Our partnership will support ongoing efforts to promote locally led marine conservation and fisheries management in Cabo Delgado province, northern Mozambique, by developing an innovative participatory approach to monitoring the status of artisanal fisheries.  This role will focus on the development of a participatory mobile-based fisheries monitoring system, and dissemination of information to resource users to help advise ongoing marine and fisheries management efforts.

The position represents a unique opportunity to work towards the effective management of marine resources in Mozambique, building on the encouraging successes of the Western Indian Ocean’s evolving Locally Managed Marine Area (LMMA) movement, and growing experiences harnessing mobile technology to address small-scale fisheries management challenges.  The project has been developed by a series of scoping and exchange visits between Madagascar and Mozambique over the last two years, and is grounded in strong relationships between the project partners.

This role will work closely with ZSL and AMA, whilst reporting directly to Blue Ventures’ Conservation Programmes Manager. The successful candidate will also work to build the capacity of a local project assistant, who will support community engagement in the project.

For more details including duties, required skills, and the application process please download the full job description.

Applicants should send a cover letter and a recent copy of their CV (with full address, telephone and e-mail contact details of three professional referees), along with the application form to jobs@blueventures.orgPlease include the reference “Mobile fisheries, Mozambique” in the subject line.
