Description

The Minesing Wetlands Coordinator will assist program staff with the funding and implementation of the Minesing Wetlands Management Plan (2009 – 2014), prepared in partnership by the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) and the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA). This plan outlines priority conservation actions for the Minesing Wetlands. The Plan has been prepared to assess biodiversity targets, threats and conservation actions for the protection and enhancement of the Minesing Wetlands. It includes baseline inventory information and provides a framework for meeting the NCC's Stewardship Performance Standards and the NVCA's stewardship goals that protect and restore the environment and help ensure the future of our healthy water. The Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating, funding, implementing and reporting on conservation actions, and updating the plan.

Key Responsiblities

  • Implement conservation actions, such as species and habitat monitoring, as described in the Minesing Wetlands Property Management Plan 2009-2014,
  • Coordinate with NCC and NVCA program staff working on initiatives within the wetland to ensure efficiencies and continuity,
  • Identify new resources and programs to help achieve strategic conservation goals,
  • Coordinate funding priorities, amounts and deadlines for ongoing management needs,
  • Assist NCC and NVCA program staff and local fundraising volunteers to identify, cultivate, and request funds from both existing donors and new prospects, including individuals, businesses, foundations, government sources, and non-government organizations,
  • Assist with the coordination and delivery of donor tours,
  • Assist with the coordination of meetings and activities related to the Minesing Wetlands Management Committee, a multi-stakeholder committee,
  • Ensure field safety procedures are followed,
  • Foster positive relationships with private and public property landowners within the wetland through personal contact, workshops, program newsletters and other innovative approaches to promoting conservation.

Skills and Aptitudes

  • A Bachelor's Degree in ecology, conservation biology or related discipline,
  • Demonstrated experience conducting independent fieldwork,
  • Good botanical and wildlife inventory skills, and an understanding of Ecological Land Classification,
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in grant writing and fund raising activities to support the implementation of priority research and management activities,
  • Project management skills, including excellent problem solving, planning and organizational skills, and attention to detail and timelines,
  • Comfort working in a team setting and independently,
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills,
  • Flexibility, reliability, and self motivation,
  • Prepared to travel throughout the program area, and, on occasion, work flexible hours,
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite,
  • Valid driving license,
  • Prepared to travel, and work in remote and rugged areas.
