The Midwest Outreach Coordinator will work primarily within UCS?s Climate and Energy program to conceive, coordinate, and implement outreach and capacity-building activities in the Midwest in support of the department?s strategic campaigns, including the Power Ahead Campaign which seeks to harness the power of the current ?clean energy transition? taking place across the country. As more states position themselves as clean energy and climate leaders, momentum is building toward national action that can deliver net zero carbon emissions in the U.S. by 2050. Using the strength of UCS?s energy economics and analytic expertise and Science Network and supporter base, you will help move states to adopt renewable energy and carbon market policies.
Advance state, regional, and federal legislative and regulatory climate and energy initiatives, including strong promotion of major UCS analytic and communications products.
Educate and engage UCS supporters and grasstops experts in state and federal climate and energy campaign efforts.
Engage others as needed to reach specific campaign goals, and work to expand regional coordination with the environmental justice community.
Represent UCS in state, regional and national coalitions and assist in developing coalition strategy and outreach efforts.
Work with communications staff to develop state and regional media strategies and help craft appropriate media materials and messages.
Plan events, including, UCS receptions, media and other trainings for UCS supporters, webinars and briefings for target constituencies, decision makers and the media.
Maintain and update campaign-related databases, documents and other resources.
Help support the overall smooth and efficient operation of the UCS Midwest Office.
Applicants should possess a bachelor?s degree.
3 to 5 years of comparable and relevant experience in outreach and/or organizing. Current or recent experience in the Midwest and education/experience in climate change and energy is preferred.
Must have: demonstrated ability and experience developing campaign strategy and tactics, organizing grasstops constituents, coordinating outreach events, and engaging supporters through online and offline activities.
Strong communication and public speaking skills required. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with professionals who may be expert and/or prominent in their fields.
May spend extended periods at computer terminal. Moderate travel schedule, around 10% overnight annually.

Compensation, Hours and Location: This is a full-time position based in UCS?s Chicago, IL office. For those who meet all position requirements, the salary is around $52,000.
