The Metrologist/Calibration Technician will provide support for all aspects of Joule's electronic (electrical) calibration, troubleshooting and repair services in accordance with established procedures and standards. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, possess a strong commitment to customer service and excel in a team-oriented environment. The position is located at Joule's demonstration plant in Hobbs, New Mexico. Training for the position will be conducted at the company's pilot plant in Leander, Texas.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and perform calibration of critical and non-critical process equipment and laboratory standards, and complete all associated documentation as required by SOPs.
• Work with limited supervision to isolate complex failures to electronic component level and execute repairs
• Coordinate repair and/or calibration services with external vendors and assist supervisor with purchasing activities
• Calibrate critical equipment (including pressure/vacuum transducers, RTDs, microprocessor-based controllers, autoclaves, etc.) and non-critical equipment (including pH meters, thermometers, balances, etc.)
• Assist and implement new SOPs related to internal calibrations and revise SOPs as required to improve productivity
• Support and respond to internal, external and regulatory audits in relation to all aspects of the calibration system. This will include written responses, as well as determining and implementing corrective actions to audit observations.
• Work with limited supervision to isolate, diagnose and troubleshoot equipment problems related to process equipment failures and calibrations
• Assist production and maintenance personnel with calibration questions, issues, etc.
• Ensure individual compliance with the applicable department programs, including training, documentation, SOPs and company policies and procedures
• Provide recommendations for improving calibration processes
• Design and develop new calibration methods and test aids when required

Qualifications

Candidates must have specific electronic/electrical metrology knowledge and skills, including detailed knowledge of the metrology, mathematics, and applicable technical disciplines required to perform the described duties. They should have working knowledge of The National Electric Code, high voltage up to 460 volts, machine controls including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), relay logic, motor controls (VFDs and servo), temperature and pressure controls including PID, thermocouples, RTDs and transducers and operator interfaces. In addition, proficiency in reading electrical schematics and ladder logic and a clear understanding of analytical troubleshooting are required.

A Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Engineering, Math, Science and training or certification courses in calibration and repairs, or similar, is preferred. The following attributes are also desirable:

• Formal training in Metrology, previous Precision Measurement Equipment (PMEL) course
• Five years of electronic (electrical) metrology experience
• Basic computer skills including the use of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word and database applications (data entry, not programming).
