Meteorologist (Choice of four locations)

Garrad Hassan,  provides a variety of consulting services to the renewable energy business and is world renowned for its excellence and integrity in producing high quality independent engineering consulting services and due diligence. Garrad Hassan's USA operation, Garrad Hassan America, Inc., is looking to recruit into its Garrad Hassan  Forecaster team, which offers wind power forecasting services to energy traders, regulators, wind farm owners and developers, utilities and electrical grid operators. Garrad Hassan currently forecasts for a large portfolio of sites in eleven countries around the world and is seeking to expand the team due to market demand.

As a member of the Garrad Hassan Forecaster team, responsibilities will encompass a wide range of activities, including:

• Delivering highly-accurate and reliable forecasting services for energy traders, regulators, wind farm owners/operators, developers, utilities and electrical grid operators;
• Forecast evaluation and improvement;
• Producing forecast performance reports;
• Researching and developing new modeling methods;
• Meeting with clients and presenting research at industry workshops and conferences

Required qualifications include:

• M.S. in meteorology or atmospheric sciences;
• Comprehensive understanding of atmospheric dynamics as it relates to wind flow;
• Familiarity with numerical weather prediction models;
• Aptitude for working with the statistical analysis of data and gridded atmospheric datasets;
• Proficiency in IDL and/or MatLab and SQL;
• Proficiency in MS Office Word and Excel;
• Excellent organizational and communications skills and an ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team;
• Ability to work under commercial pressure.

Desired qualifications include:

• Ph.D.  in meteorology or atmospheric sciences;
• Familiarity with wind industry tools Garrad Hassan WindFarmer and WAsP;
• Understanding of wind energy industry measurement techniques and standards;
• Familiarity with various mapping tools and map formats.
