Founded in 1935, The Wilderness Society (TWS) is a national non-profit environmental organization whose mission is to protect wilderness and to inspire Americans to care for our wild places.

TWS’s headquarters located in Washington, DC has an opening for a paid full-time intern for a six month internship. This is a perfect opportunity for a graduate student with an interest in pursuing a career in development to learn the day to day operations from a professional staff.

Internship Duties

  • Working within a team environment to provide support for direct mail, telecommunications and online fundraising initiatives and stewardship to a national nonprofit advocacy organization with nearly one million supporters.
  • Attend Direct Marketing 101 training to learn production side of direct marketing for membership programs.
  • Attend weekly meetings with direct mail, caging and customer service vendors.
  • Contacting Wilderness Society membership through mail, e-mail and phone to answer membership and program related questions.
  • Opportunity to learn donor centric database strategies for managing constituencies.
  • Provide assistance with income processing tasks.
  • Scheduling weekly departmental meeting.
  • Creating dashboard and tracking of follow up tasks.

Qualifications

  • Interest in fundraising and donor stewardship
  • Well-organized and flexible
  • Excellent customer service skills and attention to detail
  • Good writing and editing skills
  • Database experience desired 
  • Interest in the environment and public land issues desirable
