Membership Development manager

Reports to:       Head of Membership and Marketing

Place of Work: UK-GBC, Building Centre, Store Street, London

Hours of work: 37.5 hours; 9am – 5.30pm

Holidays:          28 days per annum, plus Christmas break, plus public holidays      

Salary:             Circa £30,000 pa, subject to experience

Contract:          Permanent

Job purpose

This newly created Membership Development role is of key importance to the organisation and its purpose is to manage and develop relations with the UK-GBC membership body and to support the senior management team in developing relationships with prospective members and convert these into new members.

The role reports directly to the Head of Membership and Marketing and in addition to leading on membership retention and recruitment activities will support special projects including the management of special member groups including UK-GBC’s Gold Leaf members and the development of UK-GBC’s ‘membership commitment’.

The role will involve working across the team to manage the arrangement and follow up of an ongoing series of member and prospect meetings. The role will involve close interaction across the team to ensure UK-GBC meets recruitment and retention targets. 

Main responsibilities:

Membership Development

  • Drive and implement UK-GBC’s member retention strategy.
  • Manage a programme of membership retention meetings and ensure effective and timely follow up and arrange cross team attendance.
  • Manage arrangement and logistics for UK-GBC’s member presentations for staff.
  • Manage all communications, research required in preparation for meetings and follow up.
  • Develop proposals and formal presentations for the UK-GBC team to present to existing members.
  • Ensure and chase staff to follow up on actions following existing member meetings.
  • Navigate and keep abreast of trends and member organisation information in order to be able to create bespoke member relationships which benefit UK-GBC
  • Maintain and develop a membership recruitment pipeline- with probabilities of joining—on CRM system to track conversion rates, lead time and stats related to new recruitment.
  • Support scoping of new business opportunities through analysis and market research and the preparation of research briefs for the team and UK-GBC Chief Executive.
  • Develop proposals and formal presentations for UK-GBC team to present to potential members and business partners.
  • Manage new membership opportunities across the team and create recruitment proposals.
  • Ensure and chase staff to follow up on actions following prospective member meetings to ensure new member opportunities are converted.
  • Identify and where appropriate and attend key industry and government events to represent and promote UK-GBC or make recommendations for team members to attend.
  • Gold leaf members: Manage and ensure effective delivery and development of UK-GBC’s Gold Leaf membership and develop close relationships with UK-GBC’s Gold Leaf members.
  • UK-GBC Member Commitment Project: Work closely with the Head of Membership and Marketing to ensure that member retention activities support and help drive member involvement in this on-going campaign.

Person specification

Essential skills, knowledge & experience

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a business development, membership or equivalent role
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a small and dynamic team
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Confident and highly self-motivated
  • Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn and the ability to pick up new skills quickly
  • High level of competence in using standard software packages (MS Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Adobe etc)
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Experience working for a membership body
  • Knowledge of the sustainability agenda and/or the construction and property sector
  • Experience of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software
  • Chartered Institute of Marketing Qualification
