 Membership Assistant – New York Office

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a global non-profit environmental organization with more than 1.2 million members and online activists.  We have offices in New York, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Beijing.  Our staff of over 350 includes lawyers, scientists, economists, and policy analysts who work to protect the environment and public health through advocacy and education.

Position Summary:

NRDC seeks a Membership Assistant to provide customer service support and acts as the primary contact for NRDC Members.  Must be able to effectively multitask to manage a variety of projects and communicate with supporters on a daily basis.

Essential Functions:

  • Respond to phone calls, letters and emails from Members
  • Consolidate monthly income spreadsheets and process invoices for various staff members
  • Act as the NRDC Matching Gift contact person by completing applications, managing donor files and sending “Thank You” letters
  • Handle Business Reply Envelopes sent to the Membership Department
  • Collection and transmission of Action Fund donations
  • Process and report in-house credit card contributions
  • Assist the Monthly Partners manager by updating account information, sorting donations and depositing monthly checks
  • Help other members of the Membership Department as needed
Required Skills

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

The successful candidate must have:

  • Undergraduate degree required
  • Previous administrative experience is preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong organizational ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks independently and efficiently
  • Must display positive interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Interest in environmental or progressive issues is a plus
