Membership and Development Specialist
TITLE: Membership and Development Specialist
FLSA: Full-time, Non-exempt position
Supervised by: Development Director
Location: Minneapolis, MN
Hours: 40 hours/week/5 days per week; M-F

SUMMARY:
The Membership and Development Specialist is responsible for supporting the membership and development department, by executing membership campaigns, managing the member/donor database, supporting member/donor events, budget reconciliation and preparation, analyzing and reporting on the results of mailings, coordinating membership renewals/donation appeal mailings, and assisting the Development Director as needed on other fundraising efforts.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage Database System (Raiser’s Edge) 40%:

  • Run queries, exports and reports
  • Ensure timely, accurate data entry and overall data integrity of the database
  • Manipulate structural changes
  • Manage integrity of data entry and information
  • Implement quarterly National Change of Address (NCOA) update and import information into database
  • Process credit card transactions (daily and recurring)
  • Manage online donations (SPARK)
  • Troubleshoot any issues

Coordinate Membership and Development Mailings 25%:

  • Maintain and execute a production schedule for all new member/renewal/donation mailings
  • Gather quotes from printers
  • Pull/purchase/proof mailing lists
  • Coordinate paper/envelopes
  • Coordinate designer/writer/printer
  • Approve final proof before mailing

Execute Membership Campaigns (15%)

  • Works with Development Director to design and implement membership campaigns

Report on Membership and Development Progress 5%:

  • Export member and donor information from database and update Excel spreadsheets
  • Maintain/analyze membership reporting

Support Development and Membership Committees 5%:

  • Serve as a member of the Development Committee, attend quarterly meetings and take minutes.
  • Prepare and present reports for the Committee regarding progress and performance of mailings and fundraisers.

Assist with “Alpha Weekend” and Other Special Events/Activities 5%:

  • Coordinate logistics of event locations/supplies, etc.
  • Attend and assist as necessary.

Miscellaneous Duties 5%:

  • Assist with reconciliation and preparation of Membership and Development budgets.
  • Support “Combined Federated Campaign”: coordinate application process, download donor information and send acknowledgement to donors.
  • Support Membership Assistant with data entry during busy periods.
  • Maintain inventory of membership mailing materials/postage for all mailings.
  • Support Membership Assistant with incoming calls regarding Membership questions/concerns.
  • Create and maintain good donor relations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of two years database management (Raiser’s Edge preferred) experience.
  • Previous membership, development or administrative experience preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills including a good comfort level with handling phone calls.
  • Strong computer and typing skills including proven proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task projects simultaneously.
  • Must be flexible, team player, self-starter, energetic, well organized and customer focused.
  • Interest in the environment/outdoors and in a development/nonprofit organization career.
  • College degree a plus but not required.

 

ABILITIES

This position requires long periods of sitting and computer work and occasional travel to the International Wolf Center’s education facility in Ely, Minnesota for meetings, events and trainings, which may require overnight stays. Some tasks may require the ability to lift heavy objects and work outdoors.
