The Forest Trust (TFT) is a global non-profit membership organization that helps companies and communities deliver responsible products. Our members are international retail and manufacturing companies committed to sourcing responsibly-produced products, meaning products that respect the environment and improve peoples’ lives. Since 1999, TFT’s main focus has been to provide solutions to the issues of deforestation and the empowerment of forest dependent communities through market-based incentives. We act on the ground internationally in forests, farms and factories to help resource managers learn best management practices. We are active at key stages of the supply chain, providing unrivaled technical, traceability and communications support. We currently have offices in 14 countries and employ 90 people worldwide.

TFT is seeking an experienced and motivated professional, keen to secure a career within a dynamic nonprofit that builds partnerships to bring responsible products to market. The successful candidate will have experience in supply chain management, procurement, or QA/QC and will be numerate, articulate and well-organized, as well as passionate about environmental and social issues.

The position is full time, based in TFT’s Seattle office with frequent travel required.

Responsible to: TFT Senior Manager, N. America

Key Roles

Member responsibility: key contact between assigned Members and TFTProject/program responsibility: ensure delivery of member requirements in line with client expectations and those of TFTDevelop member-related communication tools and documentsSupport the development of TFT’s activities in North America

Responsibilities

TFT has a long track record of successfully assisting businesses to deliver responsible products to market. Our approach includes 5 key activities:

  1. Mapping the supply chain, identifying key social and environmental risks;
  2. Establishing traceability systems all the way back to the raw material source;
  3. Providing on the ground technical assistance to help tackle key sustainability risks;
  4. Achieving legal compliance and certification;
  5. Communicating the changing product story with stakeholders.


Special Conditions

Expected to travel within the USA and Europe, and occasionally long-haul to project sitesRequired to devote as much time as necessary to fulfill the duties of employment or as reasonably required, whether or not within office hours

Education, Qualifications, Skills, Experience

Required:

  • University degree or higher level qualification in a field related to business management, marketing, the environment or international development;
  • A minimum of three solid years working with businesses ideally in the consumer goods retail sector for supply chain management, procurement or quality control;
  • Strong understanding of business supply chains and sourcing issues a must;
  • Strong writing, editing and formatting skills in English;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required to enable completion of daily tasks as well to facilitate reporting, project management, internal communications etc.; MS Visio proficiency a plus;
  • Good understanding and high interest in environmental and social responsibility issues;
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary and multicultural team;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English (other additional languages an advantage);
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally;
  • Able to work flexible hours (outside 9-5 workday), as required;
  • Able to handle multiple tasks and work autonomously;
  • Flexibility, ability to show initiative and a positive attitude;
  • Eager to continually learn and develop as part of a team;
  • Only candidates with US nationality, Green Card or valid work permit will be considered.


Preferred
:

  • Knowledge of wood products, food products and/or certification;
  • Experience in business development;
  • Experience in Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
