Summary: Shallow Waters is a marine conservation NGO working toward a community-led coral reef management programme in the Koh Sdach archipelago, Cambodia.  As part of our commitment in the region, Shallow Waters is seeking a Medical Officer to oversee their volunteer marine research, conservation and diving activities.

This is a VOLUNTARY position with a minimum of four-months commitment overseeing the general health and safety of the expedition and providing medical treatment to staff and volunteers. The EO will be considered integral part of the management team and upon successful application S/He will receive a 20% discount off the project fee. Roles & Responsibilities: The MO’s primary role is to provide medical care and emergency medical treatments when required. Other duties are the maintenance and stock control of all medical supplies and medical equipment, maintenance of medical records, provision of tuition on preventative hygiene, enforcement of policies related to expedition health and safety and submission of regular reports to the Expedition Leader and the UK office.

Minimum Requirement: To qualify for this position, the successful candidate is a qualified doctor, paramedic or nurse with a minimum of 6 months A&E experience. Ideally, S/He is a scuba diver with an Emergency First Responder qualification. Furthermore, S/He has a keen interest in marine biology and tropical disease with enthusiasm for learning   and developing a research project on environmental health.

Personal Specification: The right candidate must be in good physical fitness and be experienced in working in remote areas. The EO is independent and is prepared to work long hours within a small team environment, living and working together, be able to liaise with customers and volunteers in an friendly, effective and diplomatic manner. Personal qualities relevant to this position include good communication, leadership, interpersonal skills, initiative, resilience, creativity and the ability to anticipate problems and find appropriate solutions.
