Media Sales and Marketing Officer
Job title: Media Sales and Marketing Officer (Membership) Salary: £17,485 per annum Hours: 40 hours per week Status: This is a permanent post subject to satisfactory completion of a six month probation period
BackgroundCAT membership is the supporters’ scheme for the Centre for Alternative Technology. Designed to raise money for CAT charity it is also an important part of C.A.T’s public interface, involved in publishing C.A.T’s quarterly magazine Clean Slate and maintaining a long term relationship with supporters.
Job summaryThe post holder will be involved in selling advertising for our magazine Clean Slate and developing and carrying out a new member recruitment strategy. C.A.T membership is growing in size and profitability and you will have the opportunity to be involved in an area of C.A.T’s work that will continue to grow, generating increased opportunity, involvement and responsibility.
Responsibilities
Advertising Ensuring that all advertising activities are delivered on time, within budget. Including: · Responsibility for selling advertising in Clean Slate. · Setting advertising rates. · Invoicing advertisers and recording income. · Providing regular advertising/inserts performance statistics to the Membership Co-ordinator. · Managing advertising copy to ensure it is received in correct format to the copy deadline. · Maintaining and developing advertising database. · Maintaining the Clean Slate media pack. · Attending Clean Slate meetings to promote advertiser needs. · Assisting other teams throughout C.A.T with advertising requirements.
Affinity management Developing and monitoring affinities with appropriate organisations, including: · Developing an affinity strategy. · Arranging suitable advertising materials with affinity partners. · Recording and monitoring income against budget. · Ensuring all enquiries regarding affinities are answered accurately and efficiently. · Co-ordinating INK memberships and monitoring effectiveness.
Marketing – membership recruitment · Working with the Membership Coordinator to develop a recruitment strategy and budget. · Managing campaigns to ensure they come in on time, on budget. · Specific responsibilities include:
a) Research i) Devising and coordinating regular membership surveys to feed into recruitment and retention strategies. ii) Investigating and monitoring other organisations’ strategies and campaigns.
b) Direct marketing i) Coordinating the promotion of membership at the Visitor Centre in liaison with the Membership Coordinator and the Visitor Centre team. ii) Working with the Design Department to design promotional materials. iii) Managing inserts into suitable magazines as part of our marketing strategy, arranging reciprocal deals where possible. iv) Working closely with the Media Department to promote C.A.T membership. v) Web marketing - Developing and monitoring an effective e-marketing strategy. - Organising and running e-marketing campaigns, through the website, e-bulletins, web 2.0, web advertising, etc. - Working with the web designers to provide an interactive members’ website. - Overseeing monitoring of interactive content (forums, networking sites, etc.) vi) Events management - Developing events budget and strategy and monitoring effectiveness. - Coordinating membership presence at events, including staff and materials. - Working with other teams at C.A.T to improve membership presence at events.
Members’ Conference · Responsibility for promotion of our annual Members’ Conference. · Assisting the membership team with the planning and administration of the conference, including attending the event. · Assisting the membership coordinator in the development of more members’ events.
Administration · Ensuring all legal requirements for the completion of the Gift Aid claim are met. · Assisting in dealing with membership enquiries. · Helping with large mail-outs, special offers mailings, promotional mailings and Clean Slate distribution.
All Permanent Staff – Co-operative Duties · To attend a minimum of 6 monthly staff meetings per year (or such other number as may be agreed with the Management Group). · To consider issues presented to the staff body and be involved in the consensus decision-making process regarding such issues. · To input to policy development when policies are proposed by the Directions Team · To input to the strategy process when requested by the Directions Team. · To comply all C.A.T’s policies and processes as they are amended from time to time. To read and act upon policies and processes as they are approved. · To be responsible for own health and safety plus that of others as defined in the job description. To report to the Health and Safety Committee any matters of concern regarding health and safety.
