Description

The Global Forest Coalition (GFC) is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled media and public outreach coordinator.

The deadline for receiving applications is 12pm Tuesday 15 September.

GFC strives to reduce poverty amongst, and avoid impoverishment of, Indigenous Peoples and other forest-dependent peoples, by advocating the rights of these peoples as a basis for forest policy and addressing the direct and underlying causes of deforestation and forest degradation. The Coalition supports the campaigns and projects of Indigenous Peoples' Organizations and environmental movements in over 40 different countries, and is actively involved in the Climate negotiations and other negotiation processes related to forests. The Amsterdam-based secretariat supports the work of our international focal points and GFC members.

Job description Media and public outreach coordinator:

If you have experience with media coordination and the willingness to support the international secretariat of the GFC, we can offer you the following job.

Duration: four days a week, for at least six months. The media and public outreach coordinator should preferably be based in or near the Netherlands. Most work could be done via internet from a home office.

The job

  • Draft press releases and other press materials
  • Monitor GFC press coverage, and news relating to GFC campaigns. Provide analysis of its impact
  • Keep the news pages on our website up-to-date
  • Organise and actively participate in European outreach activities
  • Develop and implement public outreach campaigns in the Netherlands, and supporting the expansion of a volunteer network
  • Establish a close link with a number of Dutch Universities to elaborate and support an international research project on forest restoration and carbon sequestration
  • Assist in fundraising
  • Assist the communications manager in office management related tasks and communication in general (internal newsletter, Forest Cover and the website.

The skills

  • Commitment to the values of Global Forest Coalition, and some knowledge of environmental and human rights issues
  • International media or NGO communications work experience
  • English mother tongue or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Dutch, Spanish and/or French is an advantage
  • Self starter able to grasp quickly complex policy issues
  • Self motivated and organised
  • Strong communications skills
