Senator Hanson-Young is seeking an energetic person to join her team Media Adviser. The Media Adviser will be the primary contact for journalists and will respond to interview requests, provide briefings for the Senator, write media releases, organise press conferences, and monitor the media. The Media Adviser will also work closely with the Campaigns and Communications Manager to ensure strategic and effective day-to-day communications and preparation of materials for publication. The right person will be an innovative team player, able to work on their own, generate ideas and adapt quickly to change. The position reports to the Senator and Chief of Staff, and involves travel and irregular hours including weekend duties.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Media liaison including fielding requests, developing and managing relationships with journalists.
- Preparation of materials including media releases, media packs, opinion articles.
- Preparation, development and management of media events: policy and political announcements, publicity events with stakeholders.
- Maintenance of accurate media contacts lists.
- Daily media monitoring and production of daily media summary for the Leader and other MPs.
- Maintenance of media section of Senator's website.
