Description

Guaruma is looking for an outgoing person who is looking to make a difference in this world. As an organization Guaruma leads an afterschool program aimed at giving the children of the Cangrejal Watershed a better education with a specific emphasis on the world around them. That world, the Pico Bonito National Forest in Honduras, is a beauty to behold. However it needs care, and people to provide that care. Guaruma has classes in Environment, Nature Photography, English, and Computers to help these students learn more and be better prepared to serve the Cangrejal Watershed as adults.

We currently are seeking a Marketing Volunteer with a Bachelor's degree and experience in business administration, marketing and/or event planning for a minimum commitment of 6 months. This person will need to write documents in English and Spanish, so only people who speak English and Spanish at a near fluent level should apply. The applicant must be able to live in a small village, and ideally would have experience working on a cross-cultural team or studying/working in a foreign country.

The volunteer reports to the executive director in Las Mangas, but will be expected to initiate and follow through on independent projects. Being self-motivated and creative enough to work with limited resources is a must.

Guaruma provides housing to volunteers and the position has a monthly stipend of 2,000 lempiras ($105). Our staff currently consists of people from Honduras and the United States. Nearly all business is conducted in Spanish. Knowledge of other languages is an asset as we interact with tourists from around the world.

The target start date for this position is mid-May.

Responsibilities unique to this position, include:

1) Teaching 8 English classes each week to 70 students in two communities

2) Teaching 1 English class to adults in the community each week

3) Meeting with other NGOs and businesses regarding mutual educational projects

4) Attending occasional festivals/events to help promote Guaruma

5) Helping to train student nature guides

6) Assisting with the development of promotional and marketing materials

7) Working with the executive director and photography director on any mutual projects

8) Help with tasks such as cleaning, chaperoning students, and interacting with the community.

How to Apply:

Please send resume/CV as a .doc or .pdf file with a cover letter that explains your qualifications and mentions when you could start and expected time commitment in English or Spanish to the Executive Director, Ulises Soriano at info@guaruma.org and cc ben@guaruma.org.
Applicants are considered on a rolling basis and may be asked to provide two references. We will contact well qualified applicants for an interview via Skype. We are unable to respond to all applicants due to the volume of resumes we receive.
Questions should be directed to the Director, Ulises Soriano at info@guaruma.org, or the Photography Director, Benjamin Katz, at ben@guaruma.org.
