Description

A Marketing Manager is required for a new and exciting project based in the heart of Malawi’s capital city, Lilongwe, to support a Born Free Foundation funded initiative.  The Lilongwe Wildlife Centre, in conjunction with the Department of National Parks, is creating a new facility that will not only address issues affecting wildlife but also those that impact on people under a new “People and Wildlife” (PAW) Concept.

The Centre’s primary remit is to rescue injured, orphaned and confiscated wild animals, rehabilitate them and wherever possible return them to the wild under controlled soft release programmes.  The Centre also has an important educational role to play, particularly in engaging Malawian school children in wildlife issues.

The project is seeking an independent, self motivating, enthusiastic marketing professional with at least 3 years marketing experience to raise the profile & drive visitation to the Centre, and maximise other revenue opportunities. Specifically, the successful candidate will be responsible for: all marketing, advertising and promotional activities relating to the Centre; devising, implementing and monitoring the Centre’s Marketing Plan; supervising a Marketing Assistant; identifying new income streams and media-related opportunities; and importantly driving visitation to the Centre to help it achieve financial sustainability. A full job description can be provided on request.  Experience of living and working in Africa would be preferable, as would an understanding of wildlife issues, although this is not essential. Evidence of success in increasing visitation to a public facility would be very favourably viewed.

A commitment to the programme for at least one year is required although 2 years is preferred. A local monthly stipend of $385 a month and shared accommodation will be included in the package.  For more information on the Centre, take a look at our website www.lilongwewildlife.org and the following link http://www.vimeo.com/1719812.  To apply for the position, please email a covering letter and CV to the Centre’s Operations Manager & Born Free’s ‘PAW’ Centre Consultant: wildlife@llwc.org & cdmvula@aol.com
