Director of Marketing, Equitable Origin LLC

Equitable Origin owns an innovative stakeholder-based, voluntary certification system designed to promote higher social and environmental standards, greater transparency, and more accountability in the extractive industries.  We deliver a market mechanism to drive positive change that reduces the impact of natural resource exploration and production, creates a new market for responsibly produced fuels and minerals, and empowers consumers and businesses to reward companies that commit to this new paradigm.

Our value proposition grants us access to the highest levels of government, NGOs, advocacy groups, consumer brands and industry; our continued success depends on making a difference at the community and consumer level.  We are looking for a Director of Marketing with sufficient creativity and presence to build our brand into this atmosphere.  He or she will report to the Chief Operating Officer, support the Executive team, and contribute actively to business development and strategy.  We want an individual who will become our go-to person for all aspects of brand, marketing and communications with the potential to grow into an executive role.

We have a number of staff based in the US with Latin American regional operations in Ecuador and Colombia.  Ideally, the position will be based in the New York City although exceptional candidates residing elsewhere will be considered.

Specific responsibilities include

  • Driving sales through the art and science of marketing.
  • Corporate brand management and communications strategy on all media platforms for a diverse array of stakeholders, constituencies and clients.
  • Market research and analysis, market strategy, and planning.
  • Execution of marketing and communications events and campaigns.
  • Support of our sales team and other business development channels.
  • Management of all brand-related intellectual property, marketing and sales collateral, software and infrastructure.
  • Budgeting, negotiations, performance measurement, ROI analysis and reporting.

Required Qualifications

The Director will be expected to build and deploy a small team of staff and consultants and own relationships with a number of stakeholders, sponsors and constituencies critical to our success.  The successful candidate will have a strong social conscience, hold an advanced degree in marketing, and demonstrate

  • Flexibility, entreprise, autonomy, commitment and ability to foster collaboration.
  • Demonstrable success in building brand and developing business in fast-moving and high-reputational-risk environments.
  • Superior ethics, leadership, project execution and customer service skills.
  • Extraordinary attention to detail and excellent communication, writing and facilitation skills.
  • Budget management experience.
  • All the usual expectations regarding IT skills and facility with our software.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with the following experience will be given preference in the selection process:

  • Domain knowledge of social, environmental and sustainability issues.
  • A stellar reputation within a well-developed network.
  • Superior creativity, strong knowledge of design and ability to effectively communicate with a diverse array of stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with certification schemes, certificate trading schemes and ecolabels.
  • Knowledge of the extractive industries in general and oil and gas in particular.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish; experience working in LATAM.
