Position/Title: MARKET INFORMATION SERVICE (MIS) COORDINATOR
Level (Grade): P4*/ Duty Station: YOKOHAMA, JAPAN Date for Entry on Duty: 15 August 2009 Duration of Assignment: FIXED TERM: TWO YEARS (RENEWABLE) DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: 30 July 2009 1. BACKGROUND ITTO’s Tropical Timber Market Information Service (MIS) produces the Tropical Timber Market Report (TTMR), a bulletin issued every two weeks containing market news, prices and trends for a wide range of tropical timber products to the trade and industry groups, executives and analysts worldwide. This is part of the effort by the Organization to promote a competitive tropical timber industry and a transparent trade in tropical timber products. The ITTO MIS bulletin publishes a range of data and information to meet producers’ and consumers’ needs for information on trends and developments in the international markets as well as information from producer countries of interest to buyers. 2. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The MIS Coordinator will be responsible for the management of data collection, compilation, publication and dissemination of the ITTO Market Information Service on tropical timber and wood products (see http://www.itto.int). Specific duties will include: • Maintaining and strengthening the operation of the ITTO Market Information Service (MIS); • Identifying and liaising with a network of correspondents in ITTO producer and consumer member countries for the collection of relevant information on the trade in, and prices of, tropical timber and wood products; • Arranging for an effective network in the producer countries with regard to tropical timber supply situation, tropical timber trade and industrial development plans, etc. in those countries for the collection and analysis of information to be included in the ITTO MIS bulletin; • Working closely with the ITTO Communication Unit on appropriate market information to be included on the ITTO homepage; analyzing and compiling production and trade data for publication and dissemination to ITTO members and other agencies; preparing reports on the operation of the MIS and related issues for the Committee on Economic Information and Market Intelligence and others as required; • Liaising with the ITTO Trade Advisory Group (TAG) in strengthening the ITTO MIS and convening the ITTO Annual Market Discussion; • Contributing to the production of the ITTO Annual Review and Assessment of the World Timber Situation; and • Undertaking other tasks as assigned. 3. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE • Be a national of an ITTO Member Country*; and • University degree in Economics or Business Administration, or Forestry, or other relevant equivalent qualifications. 4. SALARY ITTO offers salaries and allowances based generally on the United Nations system.
