Directory Entry : EIA undercover investigations expose transnational wildlife crime, with a focus on elephants, pangolins and tigers and forest crimes such as illegal logging and deforestation for cash crops such as palm oil. EIA work to safeguard global marine ecosystems by addressing the threats posed by plastic pollution, bycatch and commercial exploitation of whales, dolphins and porpoises and reduce the impact of climate change by campaigning to eliminate powerful refrigerant greenhouse gases, exposing related illicit trade and improving energy efficiency in the cooling sector. We use our findings in hard-hitting reports to campaign for improved governance and more effective enforcement. For jobs with the EIA visit their website. Description

The Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) is a 501(c)(3) independent, international, non-profit advocacy organization based in Washington DC, with proven records of triggering and affecting systematic change to protect the Earth’s environment. Over the last three decades, EIA has established a unique paradigm of methods – including pioneering the use of undercover investigative techniques to expose environmental crimes and drive change. These crimes include illegal trade in endangered wildlife, illegal logging and associated trade in illegal timber, and the trade in both climate damaging and ozone layer depleting gases.

Since its founding in 1984, EIA has led efforts to protect great whales, small whales, dolphins and porpoises and their habitats around the world and has directly brought about positive changes in international laws and government policies, saving the lives of millions of rare and endangered species and reducing illegal logging and associated timber trade.

EIA is seeking a full-time Policy Analyst to join our team in Washington, D.C. office to further its wildlife campaign goals with a specific focus on marine mammals and marine policy to protect cetaceans and their habitats. We are looking for a motivated, organized, and committed individual to join one of the most dynamic teams in Washington today.

• Support campaigns within the International Maritime Organization (IMO), International Whaling Commission (IWC) and other venues.

• Gather information on environmental impacts of shipping and other potential threats to beluga whales, narwhals and their habitats.

• Liaise with cetacean science and policy experts from around the world to inform campaign objectives.

• Draft briefings, reports, public comments, memos and other materials related to belugas and narwhals, or other threats to endangered species, to promote innovative solutions to reduce such threats.

• Work with team members to implement a multi-faceted campaign.

• Travel internationally and domestically as required.

• Support other species campaigns as needed.

Essential Expertise and Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3-5 years of demonstrated relevant experience of campaigning, carrying out research, policy and/or advocacy for wildlife in an environmental or conservation group or similar civil society organization.
