Chemonics seeks a short-term marine treaties specialist for the ongoing USAID-funded Indonesia Marine and Climate Support project for sustainable management of marine and coastal ecosystems. The project aims to restore and enhance ecosystem productivity, biodiversity, and resiliency for food and economic security, and increase the resiliency of natural ecosystems and coastal communities to adapt to climate change and reduce risk from disasters. The marine treaties specialist will be based in Jakarta. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world. Responsibilities include:
Improve the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries' understanding of international agreements and forums created for management of marine and fisheries issues, including international dispute settlement mechanisms, state rights and obligations related to the marine environment, fisheries, and scientific research
Provide recommendations to strengthen Indonesia's ability to participate in and benefit from international mechanisms established under the 1982 United Nations Convention on Law of the Sea
Qualifications:
Advanced degree in a relevant field preferred
Minimum 10 years of demonstrated work experience in a relevant field
Professional work experience in Asia required
Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
