Description

Do you have an interest in marine science and/or data management?

Are you interested in developing a career in marine conservation?

JNCC advises Government on UK and international nature conservation and is seeking an enthusiastic individual to take on either the role of Marine Species Support Officer in Aberdeen or Marine Evidence Support Officer in Peterborough.

Marine Support Officers provide scientific administration and technical support to enable JNCC to provide marine conservation advice. Marine Support Officers also contribute to work that includes developing scientific advice for Government on management of activities in an evolving UK Marine Protected Areas network and communicating and sharing knowledge with partners and stakeholders.

The ideal candidate would be experienced at using standard office software, have experience of managing and manipulating large data sets and/or have good knowledge of fisheries management and UK marine conservation, particularly of marine mammals. The positions advertised would suit someone with good data management skills, to support the storage and management of biological, physical and human activities data. Skills in managing spatial data and basic programming would be valuable but not essential, particularly for the Marine Evidence position.
