Marine Support Officer

2 year Fixed Term Appointment*

Starting salary £21,442 pa

Do you have a background in marine science?

Are you interested in developing a career in marine conservation?

JNCC advises Government on UK and international nature conservation and is seeking an enthusiastic individual to take on the role of Marine Support Officer (MSO) within its Marine Directorate in Aberdeen. As a progressive directorate in JNCC, three further MSO roles are envisaged in the near future, two of which will be based in Peterborough.

MSOs provide scientific administration and technical support to enable JNCC to provide marine conservation advice.  MSOs also contribute to work that includes developing scientific advice for Government on the evolving Marine Protected areas network, sustainable management of activities operating within the marine environment, and communicating and sharing knowledge with partners and stakeholders.

The position advertised would require someone with strong GIS skills to support the management and analysis of biophysical and human activities data.  However, we are also interested in applicants with experience in communications and/or with marine conservation and fisheries knowledge that would be more suited to the future MSO positions.  Ideally, candidates will have broad relevant marine ecological and/or marine industries knowledge.

For more information about the competencies visit our website www.jncc.defra.gov.uk/jobs where you can download the details and the relevant application form and find out more about our work. Alternatively, contact us via recruitment@jncc.gov.uk and we will email them to you.

*With possibility of extension and permanency.

The closing date is 09:00 on Monday 18th November 2013.  Interviews for the initial post are likely to be during the week commencing 09 December 2013 and will be conducted in Aberdeen.
