Madagascar Research and Conservation Institute (MRCI) are currently looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the team as Marine Science Manager. MRCI is a government approved institute undertaking environmental research for and on behalf of the Malagasy Government and our partners.

MRCI is a volunteer based organisation, working with volunteers in conservation and environmental education. We are committed to protecting biodiversity in ways that also benefit local people.

Summary Job Description

The successful applicant must be independently motivated, work as a valued member of the team, able to motivate and lead small groups, be experienced in leading dives, conduct talks and presentations to volunteers and within the community.

Our main research initiative is on the coral reef filled waters surrounding Nosy Komba using scuba surveys, as well as other projects such as; artificial reef building, turtle monitoring and protection and local community environmental awareness/education.

The successful candidate will hold the following qualifications/experience;

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related topic, masters an advantage
  • PADI rescue diver, PADI dive master an advantage
  • Experience in developing country/research/volunteer projects
  • First Aid certificate
  • RYA powerboat level 2  

This is not a 9-5 role so the successful applicant will have a balanced personality, be able to deal with all situations at all hours, self-motivated and enthusiastic about all aspects of life in the field.

Accommodation and 3 meals a day will be provided when at Turtle Cove along with 150GBP per month remuneration for expenses. You will need to cover your own pre-departure costs including flights, personal equipment, insurance and visas. There is a minimum commitment of 6 months commencing August/Septmber 2017 with the possibility of extension.
