JOB COMPETENCES

To be considered for this post you will need to demonstrate the following competencies:

Essential

  1. A good grounding in an environmental or other relevant technical subject.
  2. Knowledge of the impacts of human activities on the marine environment, an understanding of the assessment and management of marine environmental impacts (especially in relation to marine mammals, birds and/or landscape), and familiarity with CCW’s role in marine management.
  3. Knowledge of the offshore renewable energy or other marine industrial sectors and/or an understanding of the regulation of energy or other industrial activities in the marine environment.
  4. Knowledge of UK and international marine legislation and policy relating to natural heritage, the marine environment and energy.
  5. The ability to build strong working relationships with individuals from a wide range of working cultures, coupled with good teamworking and facilitation skills.
  6. Good communication skills, written and spoken, including the ability to analyse problems and communicate solutions, distil key messages from technical information and give clear advice to colleagues and others in verbal and written form
  7. The ability to plan and manage work to time and to a high technical standard, allied to sound decision making and initiative.
  8. The ability to use word processing, spreadsheets and e-mail in a Windows environment.
  9. An awareness of Welsh culture, and a positive attitude to linguistic and cultural diversity.
    - The ability to use basic Welsh conversational phrases (eg “bore da” – “good morning”) and to pronounce Welsh place names correctly.
    - The ability to currently and legally drive a car in the UK.

Desirable

  1. Scientific/policy research and project management skills.
    - Fluency in spoken Welsh

SALARY

The starting salary will be £23,770.00 a year.

STATUS

This is a fixed-term, pensionable full-time appointment of 37 hours a week to 31 March 2013, with a possibility of an extension until 30 September 2013.
