This position will provide project management and technical support to GMPP’s programme of work on coastal ecosystems (specifically conservation and investment in mangroves) and in GMPP’s advisory role to the Blue Action Fund. The Programme Officer will report to the Global Director and the Manager, Oceans & Climate Change, IUCN GMPP and work with other associated project staff and consultants as needed. The work will be centred on two main components. However, these could evolve or change according to needs and preferences. The two main components are as follows:
1. Technical lead for mangrove related projects and products (approx. 70%) including: • Lead the delivery of ‘Mangrove Conservation Best Practice’ knowledge and network building products for the Save Our Mangroves Now! Programme. - Organise targeted and technical workshops and capacity building events linked to the development of these products in a strategic and cost-effective manner so that the impact on practitioners, scientists and policy makers is maximised. - Produce a technical report on the results of these workshops along with an online portal to manage the dissemination of these results. - Assist in the creation and development of IUCN/WWF Germany networks related to mangroves and Blue Carbon partnerships. Links to the private/financial/insurance sector and to the Blue Natural Capital Financing Facility (BNCFF) are of special interest to this programme. •Contribute to the advocacy of prioritising mangroves and other coastal ecosystem conservation at international fora and within relevant mangrove networks. • Assist if needed, in finalising the content and publication of a ‘Review of Investment Impact in Mangrove Conservation and Rehabilitation’. •Coordinate efforts relating to mangrove best practices and effective investments with a study on ‘Mangrove-related Legislation’ and other programme efforts.
2. Coordinate IUCN’s role as service provider to the Blue Action Fund (BAF) (approx. 30%) • Manage IUCN’s contribution to the project evaluation process in a timely and effective manner including: formation of evaluation teams, review of concept notes and project proposals. • Coordinate the monitoring of BAF funded projects as stipulated in the IUCN/BAF agreement. • Contribute to awareness raising and communication of the BAF with relevant networks and potential partners. • Provide additional technical support to the Blue Action Fund as and when needed.
