Description
 The Marine Planner will play the leadership and coordinating roll in the application process for The Nature Conservancy of Hawai‘i to become an approved In Lieu Fee Sponsor for compensatory mitigation work in near shore and coastal areas of the main Hawaiian islands.  The Marine Coordinator must understand and be able to work with the Conservancy’s marine ecoregional plan for the main Hawaiian islands and use that plan as the basis for carrying out the application and documentation process associated with securing In Lieu Fee Sponsorship under an agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other federal and state government agencies. 

The Marine Planner works collaboratively with other TNC conservation and external affairs staff, partner organizations, and government agencies to implement the Conservancy’s coastal and marine conservation initiatives through the marine ecoregional plan and the In Lieu Fee Sponsorship process. 

The Marine Coordinator will also provide support for dissemination and education to partners related to the Conservancy’s marine ecoregional plan for the main Hawaiian islands. 

The duties of the Marine Planner may also include one or more of the following functions:
• Supplies marine conservation and planning teams with information for site portfolios.
• Develops marine and coastal conservation strategies.
• Furthers the Conservancy’s strategic goals through the design of marine management plans and strategies.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, environmental studies or related field and 3-5 years related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience in marine conservation planning and management. 
• Experience in The Nature Conservancy planning methodology.
• Knowledge of coastal and marine conservation issues and reef systems in Hawai‘i.
• Experience and/or ability to interact and communicate effectively with research, academic, conservation management, and government agency communities, particularly with regard to marine management, biological monitoring and strategic planning.
• Demonstrated experience with the content and operation of the Conservancy’s marine ecoregional plan for the main Hawaiian islands.
• Experience communicating with the public and government agencies both in writing and verbally.
