Marine Licensing Case Officer

£22,698 – £25,903

Newcastle

Ref: IRC64226

If you’re passionate about the marine sector and keen to see our seas used sustainably, the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) could have the ideal role for you.

About the role

As a Marine Licensing Case Officer, you will have an exciting opportunity to ensure that activities inEngland’s seas are properly regulated and in line with sustainable development strategies. You will be part of our Marine Licensing Team, tasked with delivering a variety of licence applications for activities involving offshore wind energy; tidal and wave energy; marine mineral extraction; ports and harbours; and nuclear energy. The team has a diverse remit, which means that day to day, you could be advising applicants about regulatory frameworks and providing general guidance, dealing with correspondence or briefing senior managers. The aim is to take every case to a successful conclusion and make sure that all activities in English waters comply with regulations.

About you

To join us, you must be literate, numerate and enthusiastic about working within our sector. We will assess your aptitude for working with words and numbers through an online test. You should also be ready to learn and develop the skills needed to fulfill our role as an enabling regulator. You must understand the importance of the regulatory process and deliver fair and open decisions. A degree (or equivalent) in a Science, Biology or Marine-related subject would be an advantage (but isn’t essential), as we will provide a full technical training programme.

Please note that occasional travel to sites and meetings will be necessary.

About the MMO

The Marine Management Organisation is responsible for the majority of activities in English waters. We oversee marine planning to ensure the sustainable development of our coastal and offshore waters, monitor and control sea fishing activity, enforce marine legislation and licensing, and carry out projects that help to protect water environments.
