Description

You’ll relish this opportunity to play a central part in coordinating and delivering work to protect the marine environment. Because everything’s better with nature. You included.

At Natural England, we advise the UK Government on the natural environment. We’re here to make sure people and nature can thrive. From advising farmers on sustainable land management, to gathering and analysing environmental data, and promoting health and wellbeing through the great outdoors, we love what we do. Join us and you’ll be part of an inclusive, motivated and ambitious team, committed to achieving results for our environment, for everyone.

As a Marine Lead Adviser, you will take a leading role on the conservation and recovery of the marine environment. You’ll do this by providing advice, carrying out monitoring, and working collaboratively with a range of partners. You may take responsibility for ensuring major marine projects benefit from quality-assured and robust advice on issues including conservation and fisheries management. Marine casework can involve supporting offshore wind and sustainable development. Whatever your focus, it’s a diverse role in which you’ll always be making a difference. We have various vacancies across England and will assign you to the role that best fits your knowledge, skills and location preferences.

To join us, you will need a relevant degree or equivalent experience, with proven knowledge spanning marine environment legislation, habitat management, marine ecology and biodiversity in UK waters. Project planning and delivery experience would be a real advantage, and you will ideally have knowledge of marine industries and their interaction with habitats. You’ll certainly demonstrate a flair for making evidence-based decisions, together with the communication skills that will enable you to understand and engage with our partners and customers.

We welcome and encourage applications from all communities and, wherever possible, we accommodate requests for both full and part-time hours and other flexible working patterns. Everyone at Natural England is supported to develop their skills and capabilities. You can also look forward to great benefits including a Civil Service pension.
