This job helps to ensure that the marine environment and natural resources of Wales are sustainably maintained and enhanced in the present and for the future. You will do this by providing expert advice and guidance on the management of the maritime environment, particularly in relation to marine industries to Welsh Government, UK Government, NRW management and staff. 

Job Specific Responsibilities

Delivering results 

  • Provide internal and external advice on the management of the maritime environment and specifically on marine industries.
  • Provide timely and proactive communication on Marine Industry matters internally.
  • Contribute to our work on related strategic planning and assessment processes (e.g. Sector plans, Strategic Environmental Assessment) and provide support to those in NRW working on offshore development casework.
  • Contribute to the wider work of the Marine Strategic Planning Energy & Advice Te 
  • Building strong stakeholder relationships 
  • Act as a point of contact in NRW for offshore industries liaison with other statutory nature conservation agencies and other partners.
  • Maintain close working links with NRW’s Marine Licensing Team
  • Liaise regularly on marine industry matters with all key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent NRW in relation to marine industry matters in liaison with Welsh and UK governments, other regulators, developer bodies and other partners. 
  • Assisting strategic direction setting 
  • Maintain an overview of marine industry matters relating to Wales.
  • Contribute to NRW’s work on Welsh Governments Marine Transition Programme
     

Job Specific Requirements 

You will possess proven ability and/or knowledge in the following areas:

  • A good grounding in a relevant subject, eg biology, geography, environmental studies etc.
  • An understanding of the role of NRW and other organisations with an interest in the maritime environment.
  • An understanding of human impacts on the marine environment and their assessment and management.
  • An understanding of Welsh, UK and international marine policy and legislation.
  • The ability to synthesize complex information to provide clear advice based on sound judgment.
  • Good representational, influencing and persuasion skills.
  • Good team-working and facilitation skills and the ability to build collaborative working relationships with a wide range of individuals.
  • A high level of interpersonal, written and spoken communication skills.
  • Good project management skills.
  • The ability to currently and legally drive a car in the UK.

Due consideration has been given to the Welsh language requirements for the post and the existing skills within the team. Taking this into consideration the Welsh language skills required for the post are at:

Level 1 - The ability to use basic Welsh conversational phrases (eg “bore da” – “good morning”) and to pronounce Welsh place names correctly 

Personal Responsibilities

The post holder is responsible to: Marine Industries Advice manager.

This post is responsible for: Providing expert advice and guidance on the management of the maritime environment, particularly in relation to marine industries, to Welsh Government, UK Government, NRW management and staff. 

Status

This is a fixed-term, pensionable part-time appointment of up to 26 hours a week for one year to 30/06/2016, or earlier if the post holder returns from maternity leave earlier.

Starting salary £28,678
