Description

Blue Marine Foundation (BLUE) is seeking a Project Manager to deliver a five-year, multi-institution scientific research project.

Salary: Negotiable, dependent on experience

Hours: Full time, Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm

Contract: 12 month fixed-term renewable contract, three-month trial

Location: Flexible with some time at Somerset House, London

Holidays: 5 weeks leave per annum plus national holidays

Reporting to: Project Steering Committee

Role & responsibilities:

  • Lead the project management process, matched to the project grant agreement, ensuring that scientific partners deliver to the objectives. 
  • Provide connectivity between lead partners, ensuring all partners meet quarterly progress milestones alongside partner Project Managers.
  • Report progress into the project steering committee on a quarterly basis, flagging areas of concern and actioning steering committee advice.
  • Support organisation of research expeditions.
  • Organise meetings and, where necessary, travel.
  • Organise the board of external advisers and consolidate feedback into the project direction.
  • Monitor spending and income data against key performance objectives.
  • Liaise closely with BLUE’s media team, contribute to press and outreach regarding project developments.
  • Liaise closely with BLUE’s finance team to ensure efficient deployment of project funds.
  • Support media team for project microsites and social media.
  • Create annual reports, supported by design and comms team.
  • Keep an eye on the context of the programme and any similar work.

The successful applicant will be highly organised, with a rigorous approach to project management.

Desired experience includes:

  • Successful delivery of multi-million pound, multi-year research programmes or other projects.
  • Track record of high-impact project management, accurate reporting and successful project delivery.
  • Excellent communicator with a diplomatic approach to management.
  • Skilled at reporting, with the ability to condense complex information quickly.
  • Aptitude and ability to work under pressure.
  • High level of numeracy with the ability to track multiple budgets over time.
  • Basic scientific understanding may be valuable, but is not a prerequisite.
