MARINE ECOLOGIST

The Opportunity
We are looking for a Marine Ecologist to join our Ecology and Hydrology department based at either our newly refurbished office in Stirling or our office in Newcastle.  In this role, you will primarily be responsible for supporting the offshore fish and benthic team in terms of providing advice on ecological issues, organising and undertaking benthic and fish surveys, undertaking desk based reviews and statistical analysis, compiling information for Habitat Regulations Assessments, liaising with clients and statutory consultees, tendering for new work and preparing and providing written technical reports as required. You will also be responsible for developing new business for the team both through existing leads and developing new pipelines of work.  

Qualifications

You will have a degree or equivalent in a marine biological degree and/or MSc and demonstrate a sound knowledge in the marine ecology and survey techniques.  

Knowledge and Experience

Ideally, you will have specialist knowledge in marine ecology. .  You will ideally also have experience in the following: 

  • Understanding of the renewable industry and client requirements
  • Compiling of EIA chapters, preferably for offshore renewable EIAs
  • Writing marine ecology technical reports, preferably for offshore renewable projects
  • Understanding of the issues surrounding marine ecology for offshore construction projects, and mitigation measures
  • Working in ecological / environmental consultancy
  • Habitats Regulations Assessments
  • Liaison with clients and stakeholders
  • Building networks

You will have demonstrable knowledge/involvement in the some of the following: 

  • Offshore ecology surveys (including DDV, grab, intertidal and fishing surveys)  and
  • UK and European legislation in relation to protected habitats and species
  • Planning systems in relation to renewable energy
  • Project Management skills 

This role involves frequent travel so you will need to demonstrate the ability to travel.

The position is based from our newest office in Stirling.  The office in Stirling is recently refurbished to an excellent standard; the office is just off the A91 with easy access to M80 and M9 motorways.  We would also consider basing the role from our Newcastle office.
