Marine Conservation Research Assistants, Cambodia

This programme provides volunteers with practical scuba diving experience, training in scientific marine research techniques, a community conservation and natural resource management training programme and an invaluable cultural experience. You will be involved in the collection of marine data which informs the continued development of Koh Sdach’s recently created Community Fishery Organisation, and the longer term goal of creating Cambodia’s 2nd Marine Protected Area.

Training

You will have the opportunity to partake in the following training:

• PADI Open Water Diver qualification (for non-divers)
• Emergency First Responder qualification
• Reef Check and GCRMN underwater survey techniques 
• Marine Science Training including coral, fish and invertebrate identification
• Khmer language and culture classes
• Leadership and team work skills

Community education and training is a major aspect of our work here and research assistants will have the opportunity to develop and deliver projects including English lessons and environmental awareness days with the local school children.
