Description

The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is a government agency that licenses, regulates and plans marine activities in English waters to ensure they’re carried out in a sustainable way.

To support the work of the MMO in managing the marine environment. The post holder will be the MMO point of contact and decision maker in the event of a marine pollution incident, leading the MMO in its preparedness for a marine emergency.


Main accountabilities and activities -
Marine pollution response

The post holder will be the MMO point of contact and decision maker in the event of a marine pollution incident, working with other government departments and MMO coastal offices. They will continually seek to improve by reviewing lessons learnt.

Training

The post holder will lead the MMO in its preparedness for a marine emergency; this will include overseeing training for MMO responders, leading the MMOs response to multi-agency marine emergency exercises/incidents and participate in a minimum of two events.

Marine Protected Area management

The MMO is England’s principle marine regulator. This role will continue to develop and implement processes to ensure effective management and monitoring of marine protected areas (MPA) (inshore and offshore), working closely with operations and coastal offices.

Customer Service and stakeholder engagement

Engaging positively with customers and stakeholders is a key part of this role. The role will entail presenting MMO (and broader Government) views at industry and stakeholder events. The ability to deal with stakeholders with conflicting views or needs will be essential.

Collaborative working

Working closely with the other government departments will be essential to agree joint objectives. With close collaborative working with delivery agencies, industry and other stakeholders to deliver effective fisheries and conservation management.

    People skilled in this area create and maintain positive, professional and trusting working relationships with a wide range of people within and outside the MMO and Civil Service to help get business done. At all levels, it requires working collaboratively, sharing information and building supportive, responsive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, whilst having the confidence to challenge assumptions. At senior levels, it’s about delivering business objectives through creating an inclusive environment, encouraging collaboration and building effective partnerships including relationships with Ministers.

Selection Process

Selection will be by sift and interview which will focus on the following 6 Competencies:

Seeing the bigger picture
Leading and communicating


If there is an initial sift, it will be based on the lead competence – "Making effective decisions”. The same competence will also be used to separate candidates if the scores are tied
