The British Antarctic Survey (BAS), part of the Natural Environment Research Council, aims to undertake a world-class programme of scientific research, and to sustain for the UK an active and influential regional presence and a leadership role in Antarctic affairs. We now require a Marine Biologist within the Ecosystems programme. This project will examine the relationship between sea ice duration, ice scour frequency and benthic community dynamics. The position would involve using SCUBA to look at how disturbance influences shallow polar ecology. It would involve collection of ecological samples and light microscopy. The post involves a minimum of 18 months at the British Antarctic Survey’s Rothera Research Station, Antarctica and should result in a number of high quality scientific publications. They will be expected to play a role in planning, organisation, and implementation of this research programme as well as involvement in a diverse range of marine science projects at Rothera Research Station, particularly during the summer months.
Qualifications: BSc 2:2, minimum HSE SCUBA (part IV) or equivalent. CMAS 3* Advanced European Scientific Diver or sport equivalent (BSAC adv, PADI divemaster)
