Description

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the global conservation organization, seeks a Marine Biologist for its Arctic Field Program to develop links between communities, scientists, and WWF teams on both sides of the US-Canada maritime boundary in the Beaufort Sea. The Marine Biologist will provide scientifically rigorous, dynamic leadership for a trans-boundary approach to spatial planning in the Beaufort Sea region; conduct community outreach and engage Arctic communities in assessing and understanding marine threats in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas; evaluate impacts of oil & gas exploration and other human impacts on trans-boundary wildlife populations; support WWF advocacy efforts for comprehensive and effective legislative and regulatory reform related to offshore oil and gas exploration and resource development within the U.S. government. The Marine Biologist will assess current information and research on Arctic species, climate change impacts, and related issues, to inform and support policy and communications efforts of the WWF Arctic team. This position is based in Anchorage, Alaska.

An advanced degree (PhD preferred) or equivalent work experience in marine biology, natural resources management, or spatial planning/marine studies is required. A minimum of 6 years extensive experience working with Alaska marine ecosystems and cultures is also required. The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing interdisciplinary projects, have effective communication skills and experience working in spatial planning and the Oil &Gas industry.
