Programme Description

As a volunteer in our Marine & Turtle Conservation Programme, you will not only get to experience true island life as it is lived in the Indian Ocean. You will also get a chance to work closely with other ocean enthusiasts, both international and local, at our local marine centre. In our marine centre we work on a range of projects such as our turtle head-starting program, collecting fish and coral data, planning and implementing awareness programmes for the community and schools, reef monitoring and extending our coral garden which has been laid around the island of Naifaru. Additionally, during the calm season (November to May), there is the potential oppurtunity to contribute to manta ray monitoring efforts.

Requirements

Before you sign up for volunteering in our Marine Conservation Programme, you should take note of the few requirements listed below. To volunteer in this programme, you should have:

- The ability to swim and be comfortable in the water

- Hold an interest in marine life and conservation efforts

- Have an open mind towards other cultures

- Be willing to commit yourself to helping our community

- Bring your own snorkelling equipment (mask, snorkel and fins)

All work and no fun!?

NO! There is time for fun as well! In fact we do what we can to engage our volunteers in social activities on the weekends. For instance, we arrange weekly boat trips to neighbouring islands to enjoy the sun, swim, snorkel, fish or just kick back and relax.

You will never forget your time in Naifaru. There are constantly things going on everywhere around you, and everywhere you are met with open arms and a friendly face. Do not just take our word for it; take the time to wander down one of the many intricate side alleys and experience first-hand how there is a very special atmosphere, unlike any you will find anywhere in the world. Guaranteed!

We could go on about the splendors of living in a friendly, remote island community in the Indian Ocean but really, it has to be experienced to get the true feeling of island

The best time of your life awaits you in Naifaru. Don’t just sit there! Join us and change your life and those of our community!
