The European Forest Institute (EFI) is an international organisation with 23 European member countries,
and over 120 Associate Member institutions. EFI headquarters is located in Joensuu, Finland. EFI has
several offices across Europe and FLEGT office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The working language of the
Institute is English. EFI has 80 employees and the annual budget is about 10 million euros.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The main duties of the Managing Editor include the following:
* Managing and running practicalities for EFI Publication series, incl. planning, budgeting, coordination of production and distribution.* Support to ‘EFI News’ newsletter, incl. editing,
* Contributing to external and network communication with a focus on science communication; incl.
assistance to projects in their communication exercises, writing and editing press releases, news
items for web, updating EFI website as agreed, etc.
Qualifications
* Bachelor or Master degree in a relevant field (e.g. languages, communications, environmental
communications)
* Excellent MS Office skills, Adobe Standard; Photoshop is an asset
* Excellent English skills
* Experience in publication processes (books, other printed materials)
* Ability to organise and run many parallel processes
* Experience in web editing is an asset
* Experience in science editing /news writing/ communications is an asset
* Strong team player and ability to collaborate with researchers and other experts
Duty station
The Managing Editor will be based at EFI headquarters in Joensuu, Finland and is a member of the EFI
Communications Team.
Employment conditions
The Managing Editor will be an EFI staff member. The initial duration of employment will be one year and
two months starting on 15 June 2011 for a fixed-term employment. EFI offers an inspiring, dynamic
