The Center's vision is that industry leaders will become champions of nature conservation by reducing the ecological impact of their operations, harnessing the power of their supply chains to drive widespread adoption of good practices, dedicating financial resources to on-the-ground conservation initiatives, and communicating about results to consumers, shareholders and employees.

 

Under the supervision of CELB, the Singapore Office serves as the Global Outreach hub for CI, coordinating business development, policy and communications in support of the regional conservation priorities of CI's field offices in the Asia-Pacific Region. Managing Director (MD) manages the day-to-day operations of CI's Singapore office within the framework of CI global policies, local Singapore laws and the CI Singapore business plan. MD officially reports to the Board of CI Singapore and to the Center for Environmental Leadership in Business (CELB) at CI headquarters but coordinates closely with regional headquarters and regional field offices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Servinig as the legal and official CI representative in Singapore.  
  • Ensuring sufficient and timely flow of management and operations information and reporting to CI management and external partners, including the Economic Development Board (EDB) of Singapore.
  • Ensuring the development and implementation of the overall CI Singapore Business plan.
  • Overseeing and coordinating the work of all programs managed out of Singapore to ensure compliance with local and CI requirements and coordination among the various units.  The MD coordinates with, but does not supervise, the staff of divisions outside of his/her own division who reside in the Singapore office. 
  • Providing overall management of administration, logistics, facilities, accounting, staffing and payroll.  Supervising the office operations and administrative staff.

 

In addition, MD performs the following functions:

 

  • MD leads the strategic and yearly planning processes and its implementation, monitoring and evaluation, ensuring its integration with corporate initiatives
  • MD manages the program of the Singapore office and all its component projects, leading the team, raising funds and managing financial and other resources.  MD represents CI in the country, cultivating and maintaining high-level relationships with key business, government and other institutional leaders for the purpose of fulfillinig CI's business plan for the Singapore Office.
  • The office will tie together conservation activities throughout Asia, including but not limited to our current programs in China, the Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Pacific Islands, and Australia.   There will also be a strong emphasis on working with Singapore-based organizations, including the Singapore government, corporations, and NGOs, to promote the conservation of Singapore’s national resources.

MD manages the office's efforts to achieve the following objectives:

 

  • Corporate relationship coordination, fundraising and engagement – CI will base its efforts to build relationships with the Asian corporate and philanthropic communities in Singapore, as well as its efforts to raise funds from Singapore and other donor communities throughout Southeast and East Asia: for example in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and  Tokyo
  • Policy development – CI will engage with national and international partners to develop and promote policies and governance frameworks that support the sustainable use of natural resources and ensure long-term protection of vital natural ecosystems and the services they provide
  • Programmatic and technical support and coordination – CI will base senior management for corporate engagement and policy analysis in Singapore to increase effectiveness and timeliness.  CI will also provide limited support and coordination for CI’s Asian field offices from the Singapore office
  • Outreach to Singapore institutions through professional collaboration, training events, corporate engagements, and scientific discovery, e.g., partnership with Singapore National Parks on surveying and managing important regional marine ecosystems such as the South China Sea and the Coral Triangle
  • The MD will engage directly with industry leaders in key extractive, manufacturing, retail and service sectors. MD's goals will focus on meeting CI' goals for corporate contributions and for establishing mutually beneficial, long-term relationships with leading businesses and trade associations. MD will lead the negotiation of corporate partner agreements that typically cover multiple areas of program activitiy, such as funding of field conservation projects, joint efforts to incorporate conservation guidelines into business supply chains, or communications and marketing promtions highlighting the value of partnerships and environmental leadership in business.  MD manages relationships with top corporations and interacts with senior executives at those companies to establish partnerships at the 6-8 figure level.  In serving as CI's primary point of contact in selected major corporate relationships, MD draws upon, synthesizes and manages participation from all parts of the organization necessary to ensure the success of the relationships.  In major corporate account relationships, MD will integrate input from CI's divisions dealing with strategic marketing & global communications, regional programs, conservation science, and  government policy, as well as CI's executive leadership and legal and finance departments, in all phases of the relationship -- from concept stage to formal proposal to negotiated agreement to reporting on results. 
Working Conditions:  

Frequent travel, to regional headquarters of corporate, NGO and government partners/prospective partners and to CI/CELB project sites.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master's degree

Required Skills:

  • 10+ years experience in high-level corporate and/or government partnership development and management
  • Presence and ability to establish strong relationships with senior executives in partner companies
  • Ability to leverage corporate relationships and fundraising in support of CI institutional objectives for communications, marketing and branding
  • Ability to create innovative strategies, partnerships, and programs without existing models
  • Demonstrated fundraising experience at 6-8 figure level
  • Good working knowledge of public policy and private sector developments on the environment at the international, national, state and local levels
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborative spirit and ability to work in team settings across cultures and internally within a diverse institution
  • Ability to deliver results while managing competing priorities under tight deadlines
  • Ability to supervise program and operations staff
  • Capability to interact effectively with corporate partners and with other non-governmental organizations
  • Passion for international conservation of nature, and commitment to engagement with business to address environmental problems
