SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS 
The Manager, Utility Market Development & Strategy is an individual with strong quantitative and analytical skills. They will be responsible for developing data-based recommendations and solutions that help SunEdison’s North American Utility team assess market opportunity for solar, open new states for solar, develop go-to-market strategies, define pricing and identify initiatives or opportunities that accelerate the company’s growth. The Manager will receive significant exposure to Senior Management within SunEdison, and be in a position to influence the strategy of the company. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Evaluate solar opportunities by state by comparing state-specific RPS standards to contracted and pipeline renewable projects.
  • Evaluate grid-parity solar opportunities in various power markets by valuing energy, capacity and other ancillary services from solar projects.
  • Develop internal view on wholesale power forecasts in various markets by assessing relevant commodity and environmental attribute markets, regulatory policy drivers, load growth and other factors.
  • Contribute to the development of business cases and presentations that will open new states for solar development.
  • Work with P&L leaders and the Product Development team to identify attractive customer segments and new opportunities for SunEdison by analyzing current market conditions, project cost structure and future economic forecasts.
  • Increase the value of SunEdison projects by creating, enhancing, and maintaining complex financial and statistical models for the future value of energy and renewable energy credits.
  • Help develop SunEdison’s go-to-market strategies by researching and understanding the impact of economic, financial, and regulatory factors.
  • Work with the Power Marketing and Development teams to refine segmentation strategies for municipal, cooperative and utility partners.
  • Work with proprietary and third-party data platforms to inform teams of changing market conditions

QUALIFICATIONS 
The Utility team is looking for self-motivated individuals who desire to be part of a fast-paced and developing company that is poised for growth in one of the country’s most rapidly changing industries. The position requires superior analytical and quantitative skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, and experience with telephone and internet-based research. Knowledge of wholesale power markets and familiarity with relevant third party resources is strongly preferred. Some renewable energy industry experience or knowledge of renewable energy technologies is also preferred. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to work in a fast-paced project-oriented environment, to work independently, and to deliver results on time. 

An ideal candidate will have: 

  • 6-8 years experience in the energy, finance, or consulting sectors; exceptional candidates with less experience are still encouraged to apply.
  • Financial modeling capabilities. Experience structuring complex transactions and/or building complex models a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize large quantities of information on complex subject-matter and derive meaningful insights
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to lead complex projects, work cross-functionally with other groups (regulatory, finance, sales), and deliver results.
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with Word and PowerPoint required; Database or programming skills a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's Degree a plus

WORKING CONDITIONS 
This position will be based in any of the following SunEdison offices: San Francisco, CA; Belmont, CA; or, Denver, CO. The position will be part of SunEdison’s Utility Power Marketing team. Travel will be required to meet with customers, partners, investors and other SunEdison employees.
