Salary: $83,491 to $96,710 per annum

The Fish and Wildlife Branch is seeking an experienced manager with a strong background in the science and practice of wildlife management to lead the talented professionals in the Species section. This manager will coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of Yukon-wide species management programs for carnivores, ungulates, and fish. As the supervisor of five program biologists, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities to lead and supervise staff, to develop and evaluate branch, section and program-level work plans, and to develop and manage budgets and contracts. The manager will work as part of the Branch management team with three other section managers and the Director. The ability to make decisions regarding strategic program management in a timely manner is essential.

The ideal candidate should be familiar with First Nations/Inuvialuit/Gwich’in Final Agreements and must have demonstrated competencies in consulting and collaborating with First Nation government staff, management boards, resources councils and other government agencies to conserve, manage and protect wild species and their habitats in relation to harvesting, industrial development and climate change. The successful candidate will be skilled in listening, developing and fostering relationships and have an awareness of current issues in wildlife management. Experience preparing and managing budgets and developing policies is essential. A willingness to travel both in and out of Yukon is required. Excellent written and oral communication skills and conflict resolution skills are essential.

- A degree in biology or environmental science, with specialization in fish or wildlife ecology and management
- Experience in and understanding of fish and wildlife field studies and management programs
- Extensive experience leading and supervising staff within a scientific program context
- Experience and recognized abilities to lead and coordinate multi-party processes with First Nations, Boards,
Councils and other government agencies on wildlife management issues
- Excellent administration skills including time management and problem solving skills

Condition of Employment: Valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s licence.

A one year eligibility list will be established from this competition to fill future vacancies for identical positions in the same department
and location.
