The Campaign and Research Team (CRT) at Conservation International gathers and analyzes information on, and facilitates and tracks communication with, Conservation International’s current and potential prospects and donors, including individuals, corporations and foundation. The CRT is primarily responsible for the expansion of CI’s base of support, which complements the other fundamental priorities of building relationships and raising funds. The team addresses this need by conducting sophisticated research and analysis, identifying new prospects, and managing the processes of assigning the most promising prospects to development officer portfolios. The CRT is also responsible for maintaining current and accurate information on all prospects and ensuring the Development Division’s database represents CI’s full knowledge of prospect and donor-related activity.
The Research Manager will develop strategies for significantly enlarging Conservation International’s prospect pool. S/he will be responsible for developing and implementing projects in prospect identification, capacity rating, and electronic screening. S/he will coordinate with other units in the Development Division, Chairman’s Office, and other divisions at CI for their needs of prospect information, plan and guide research protocols and strategies, and follow through with each project to its completion.
This position will report to the Senior Director, Development and will be based in Arlington, VA.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify, evaluate and recommend potential major gift prospects and assess their ability to financially support CI.
- Conduct quantitative analysis of research information gathered on qualified prospects and current donors to determine financial capacity and assign appropriate donor ratings
- Identify and manage lists of prospect and donor relationships and connections with current CI donors and supporters to further increase CI involvement and support
- Aid in the development of engagement strategies for qualified prospects
- assist in the planning and implementation of a multi-year, multi-faceted fundraising campaign for CI
- Design and implement a research training program for CI staff on prospect research
- Developing and maintaining productive working relationships across the organization
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 5-7 years of conducting comprehensive research and producing in-depth prospect analyses and profiles.
- Proven skills in understanding, analyzing and synthesizing high volumes of information and producing actionable results for major gift officers.
- Extensive knowledge in online and printed information sources for fundraising research
- Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or other comparable complex databases and Microsoft Office suite products
- Excellent business and analytical skills required.
- Must have good writing and communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with internal staff/faculty.
- Must possess demonstrated analytical skills, understanding of data and tools used for its analysis.
- Demonstrated project management skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize and meet frequent deadlines.
- Possess interpersonal skills necessary to work and collaborate successful with many different types of people.
Preferred
- Experience with high net-worth relationship and loyalty management programs a plus.
- Experience with, and commitment to, mission-driven non-profit organizations.
Working Conditions
- Possible travel, no more than 10% a year.
