Conservation International (CI) is a dynamic international non-governmental environmental conservation organization with offices in more than 40 countries and headquarters in Arlington City, Virginia, USA. In support of its Pacific Islands Program, a vacancy exists for the position of “Regional Implementation Team (RIT) Manager” with the Conservation International office based in Apia, Samoa.
The position of RIT Manager aims to provide a single, responsible point of contact in the Polynesia Micronesia Biodiversity Hotspot to assist the implementation of a major new fund for terrestrial conservation in the hotspot, called the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF). The position will coordinate the Regional Implementation Team, a team established to manage CEPF funds in the hotspot led by the CI Pacific Islands Program, with the support of a Technical Advisory Group and sub-regional partner organisations. Fourteen countries and territories in the Polynesia-Micronesia region are eligible to apply for CEPF funds which will be available for conservation projects meeting CEPF criteria over a five-year period from 2008 to 2013.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

The main duties of this position will include, among others:

  • Promote alliances and build partnerships in the region for effective conservation
  • Manage and coordinate the operation of the Regional Implementation Team
  • Manage the selection process, review of proposals and communication with potential grantees
  • Review, monitor and report on the grant portfolio and communicate program successes across the region and globally

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Skills:
  • Advanced university degree in environmental science or related natural resource management field
  • At least five years professional experience in environmental management or related field
  • Strong interest in nature conservation, and in particular in invasive species management and threatened species recovery
  • Demonstrated experience in fund disbursement and grant management
